Colored Contact Lenses

Colored contact lenses are mostly used for cosmetic purposes. They function by filtering the colors in the light save for their desired color. Some companies offer colored contact lenses that can also be used to correct astigmatism and presbyopia, but to this day, colored contact lenses are still mostly used for aesthetic purposes. Colored lenses can be classified according to transparency and tins. Some of these classifications are as follows:

Enhancement Tint and Opaque Lenses

Enhancement tint lenses are used not to change the eye color, but merely to enhance the natural eye color of the wearer. Enhancement lenses are translucent and are more recommended for those with light-colored eyes. This is because if your natural eye color is dark, the change in color won't be that visible. Opaque lenses, on the other hand, are used to dramatically change the natural eye color. Opaque lenses work even for those with natural dark eye color because these types of lenses have a solid “ring” of color that covers the iris.

Visibility and Light-filtering Tints

Visibility tints are not exactly colored contact lenses because they do not change the wearer's eye color. It is only slightly tinted to make handling and wearing the lenses a lot easier. Having visibility tint contact lenses will also make it easier to find your contacts if you drop or misplace it. Light-filtering tints on the other hand, are more popularly used in sports. This type of lenses is designed to enhance colors while muting all the others. For example, tennis players can wear gold tint or light yellow colored contact lenses to help them see the ball easily by making the background brighter. The ball would stand out against the background and make it easier for players to focus.

Colored contact lenses are available in different varies: extended wear, daily disposable, and disposable. These lenses vary depending on how often you have to change them and how long you can wear them on any given day. Colored contact lenses are generally soft and easy to wear, making it easy enough even for first-timers to handle. The market for colored contact lenses has grown dramatically over the years, and prices have become so affordable that anyone can try out and buy colored contact lenses for different purposes.

Where to Buy

You can buy colored contact lenses online from manufacturers’ websites or online stores. There are thousands of websites out there that sell colored contact lenses. However, if what you're looking for are colored contact lenses that can also correct vision, it's still more recommended to go to an optical shop or consult your eye doctor so you can find lenses that will suit your needs.
